Welcome to Blackrock Medical Practice
CORONAVIRUS TESTING CRITERIA CHANGE (Issued March 25th)
We were notified by email before midnight on March 24th regarding a change to the rules for testing of suspected COVID cases.
To meet the requirement for a test the following apply:
A patient with acute respiratory illness (fever and at least one sign/symptom of respiratory disease, e.g., cough, shortness of breath)
A patient with any acute respiratory illness AND having been in contact with a confirmed or probable COVID-19 case in the last 14 days prior to symptom onset
If the above apply to you, you must also be in a priority group to allow us to order a test- these are as follows:
a) Symptomatic close contacts of a confirmed case
b) Symptomatic healthcare workers
c) Symptomatic at risk groups that include persons with diabetes, immunosuppressed, chronic lung disease, chronic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, chronic renal disease, chronic liver disease and smokers
d) Symptomatic household contacts of at-risk groups
e) Symptomatic staff or residents in a long-term care facility
f) Symptomatic prison staff and inmates where it may be difficult to implement self-isolation advice
g) Symptomatic pregnant women
IF YOU HAVE BEEN TESTED THIS WILL BE PROCESSED AND AWAIT YOUR RESULT
IF YOU HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT PRIOR TO WEDNESDAY MARCH 25TH AND WE ORDERED A TEST FOR YOU THIS WILL NOW NOT BE ARRANGED. IF YOU FEEL YOU MEET THE NEW CRITERIA STILL FOR A TEST THEN PLEASE MAKE CONTACT SO WE CAN DISCUSS AND REORDER THIS
IF YOU HAVE A DATE FOR A TEST WE ARE UNSURE AS OF NOW AS TO WHETHER THIS WILL PROCEED AND WE HAVE BEEN TOLD TO AWAIT FURTHER GUIDANCE
IF YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS OF RESPIRATORY ILLNESS BUT DO NOT NOW MEET CRITERIA FOR A TEST THEN THE ADVICE IS TO SELF ISOLATE FOR 14 DAYS FROM ONSET OF SYMPTOMS WITH THE LAST 5 DAYS TO BE FREE OF FEVER. ANYBODY WHO LIVES WITH YOU SHOULD BE TOLD TO RESTRICT THEIR MOVEMENTS (the practical way to do this is explained in the following link https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/self-isolation-and-limited-social-interaction.html)
ANYONE WITH NEW SYMPTOMS SHOULD CALL TO DISCUSS THEIR CASE IRRESPECTIVE OF WHETHER THEY FEEL THEY MEET THE CRITERIA FOR COVID/TESTING
Please bear in mind the above is likely to result in a large amount of phone calls/queries so do bear with us at this busy time
